Electronic Eligibility Verification and Authorization Process
Our application is online with all insurance carriers and MediCare and receives eligibility, formulary verification and payment authorization under one second.
How It Works
Your staff inputs the same three data elements written on your patients' health card as the pharmacist does at the pharmacy:
- BIN #: Indicates to our system which switch controls the electronic "clearinghouse"
- PCN #: Indicates which PBM (Pharmacy Benefit Manager) is contracted with the
insurance carrier to process electronic prescriptions.
- Group ID #: Indicates to the PBM
— Which carrier is at risk
— Which health plan is utilized
— The employer group
— The authorized formulary
— Employee and dependent eligibility.
Our application transmits the patient and medication information through the switch to the PBM and then to the insurance carrier to verify eligibility (patient is currently insured, proper co-pay amount, formulary verification, etc.) The PBM then transmits the authorization code and payment amount to our system. Our system verifies authorization, then you print the label and dispense the medication(s) to your patient. All of this takes less than one second.
